Digital transformation is an easy buzzword to use, but a difficult outcome to achieve
“The buzz around hybrid has challenged how many in IT approach to cloud and opened up new opportunities to utilise new platforms. It is also going to drive more innovation from the tech vendors on making hybrid more seamless, allowing customers to flex compute back and forth between platforms and vendors easier and quicker than we see today.”

A few days ago we announced the official release of the first Hybrid Cloud Catalogue published in Romania. Being the 6th edition of a successful Cloud Computing Romania catalogues edited since 2014 by the publishing partnership between Agora Group and cloud☁mania, the Hybrid Cloud Catalog main purpose is to offer to local customers community a comprehensive guide, starting from Hybrid Cloud definitions, theoretical concepts, and models descriptions, passing to hybrid solutions advantages, market figures and trends, key steps in the migration process, use cases, and finishing with the specific solutions offered by international and Romanian providers on the local market.
One important part of this Hybrid Cloud guide is a comprehensive analyse based on specialists statements about hybrid advantages and market evolution. cloud☁mania addressed the same two questions to few international and local Cloud gurus & pioneers, managers, and specialists, all statement being published in Hybrid Cloud Catalogue in a dedicated special section named ”What are specialists thinking about Hybrid Cloud”.
Starting from now, cloud☁mania will publish all specialists’ contributions as individual articles. The first in these articles series is the answers offered for cloud☁mania by Mr Ian Moyse, Director at Cloud Telephony provider Natterbox and one of most popular Cloud evangelists, #1 Global Social Cloud Influencer in 2015 & 2016 (Onalytica) and Cloud Industry Commentator.
cloud☁mania: Which are the main advantages of the Hybrid Cloud model in the business transformation process for any organisation?
Ian Moyse: In the past few years the Cloud offering has shifted from a cost saving driver to an enabler of business innovation and transformation. Cloud offers a plethora of form factors (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, Private Cloud & Public cloud) and it is no surprise that for most businesses of size, a hybrid cloud model has become a common adoption model.
Digital transformation is an easy buzzword to use, but a difficult outcome to achieve. It often disrupts not only technology but processes, people and emotions too. Identifying the panacea design and outcomes desired from a transformation is easy, getting there is not. Utilising a mixed approach of on-network, private & public cloud compute and mixing SaaS, PaaS & Iaas offers both a more palatable journey for the business and staff and a way to mitigate risks.
Where an application is core mission critical and legacy to the business consider retaining the codeset and leveraging cloud compute for higher resiliency and cheaper faster compute power. Where the application can be changed consider a newer SaaS replacement, mix and match is the new world, allowing higher performance, better resilience, reduced costs combined with mitigation of risk.
cloud☁mania: How is the Hybrid Cloud adoption/ migration influencing the IT market development in the next 3 years?
Ian Moyse: The buzz around hybrid has challenged how many in IT approach to cloud and opened up new opportunities to utilise new platforms. It is also going to drive more innovation from the tech vendors on making hybrid more seamless, allowing customers to flex compute back and forth between platforms and vendors easier and quicker than we see today.
Companies need to re-invent and become agile and more aligned to the new customer dynamic, those expecting rapid high-quality service/outcomes 24*7 from anywhere and any device. This is how businesses need to view Hybrid cloud, what can it enable us to better serve our customer, NOT what can it do to change our technology use for the sake of technology.
We can expect to see market disruption of tech vendors to continue, increased acquisitions and mergers and likely some more big name legacy technology failures as we recently saw with Avaya. The new world is customer service 1st; take heed quickly of Cloud, Mobile, IOT, Big Data and other new technology trends and how they fit into your business model and help address your customer needs.
cloud☁mania: Thank you, Ian Moyse, for your valuable contribution for the first Hybrid Cloud Catalogue in Romania!
